Other Oral Surgeries

Oral surgery is a specialized field of dentistry that addresses a wide range of issues affecting the teeth, gums, jaw, and surrounding tissues. These procedures are designed to restore oral health, improve function, and support other dental treatments when routine care is not enough.

Common Procedures

Some of the procedures an oral surgeon may perform include:

  • Tooth Extractions – Removal of teeth that are damaged, decayed, or impacted, including wisdom teeth.
  • Surgical Exposure of Teeth – Assisting teeth that have not erupted properly, often to support orthodontic treatment.
  • Cyst or Lesion Removal – Treating abnormal growths in the mouth to prevent complications and maintain oral health.
  • Minor Soft Tissue Procedures – Addressing issues such as excess gum tissue, minor oral repairs, or other soft tissue concerns.
  • Tongue-Tie (Frenectomy) and Lip-Tie Procedures – Releasing restricted tissue under the tongue or lip to improve function for speech, feeding, or oral hygiene.
  • Biopsies of Oral Tissue – Taking small tissue samples to investigate abnormalities and rule out disease.
  • Alveoloplasty – Smoothing and reshaping the jawbone after extractions to prepare for dentures or implants.
  • Bone Grafting and Ridge Augmentation – Rebuilding bone in the jaw to support future dental implants or restore structure.
  • Pre-Prosthetic Surgery – Preparing the mouth for dentures or other restorative appliances by correcting soft tissue or bony irregularities.
  • Removal of Supernumerary (Extra) Teeth – Extracting additional teeth that may cause crowding, misalignment, or orthodontic complications.

Why Oral Surgery May Be Needed

Oral surgery is typically recommended when non-surgical treatments cannot resolve a problem. This may include persistent infection, impacted or damaged teeth, or conditions that affect chewing, speech, or overall oral comfort. Early intervention can prevent complications, reduce discomfort, and improve long-term outcomes for your oral health.

Our Approach

We treat each case individually. Before any procedure, our team conducts a thorough clinical evaluation, often supported by imaging such as x-rays or 3-D scans, to carefully plan treatment. We take the time to explain the procedure, answer questions, and discuss recovery expectations so patients feel informed and supported.

What to Expect

Oral surgery is performed using appropriate anaesthesia to ensure comfort, with sedation options available for patients who require it. Aftercare instructions are provided to manage pain, promote healing, and reduce the risk of complications. Follow-up appointments help monitor progress and ensure the best possible outcomes.

Our goal is to make oral surgery a smooth, safe, and positive experience. By combining expert care with personalized attention, we help patients restore oral health, function, and confidence in their smiles.
