Dr. Jeffrey D. Smith is a dedicated oral surgeon and the owner of Jeffrey D. Smith, DDS, Inc. He has been practicing Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at this office since 2016 when he purchased the practice from another long standing surgeon who was set to retire. Dr. Smith proudly retained the entire staff and continued a tradition of trusted, patient-centered care.
Dr. Smith earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with High Honors from the University of California, Davis in 2007. He went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry in 2011. Following dental school, he completed an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital/ University of Miami before earning his OMFS Certificate at Mount Sinai Health System in New York, where he completed four additional years of advanced surgical training.
Dr. Smith was drawn to dentistry as early as high school, inspired by the unique blend of art and science the profession offers. He values the hands-on nature of surgical care and the opportunity to tailor treatment to each individual in a way that resonates personally and compassionately. Mentorship played a meaningful role in his journey, and his dental school rotations revealed a passion for surgery that ultimately led him to specialize in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
What Dr. Smith loves most about his work is the variety each day brings: meeting new patients, guiding them through consultations, and then being able to physically provide solutions through surgical treatment. He works in close coordination with his small but exceptional team of four staff members. Their camaraderie, professionalism, and positive energy create a supportive and genuinely enjoyable environment for both patients and team members alike.
Outside the office, Dr. Smith leads an active and community-oriented life. He is an avid open water and pool swimmer and member of several local swim groups / clubs. He is also a season ticket holder for the Santa Cruz Warriors basketball team and enthusiastically follows SF Bay Area sports teams.
When he’s not swimming, practicing yoga, or strength training, he can often be found spending time with his wife and two young sons (ages 3 and 6), exploring local coffee shops and restaurants on the Westside of Santa Cruz, attending country music concerts and comedy shows, or reading nonfiction books focused on health and finance.
Can't rate Dr. Smith high enough. The whole experience was about as good as you could hope for when getting teeth pulled. My son had 4 wisdom teeth removed and the procedure was quick and recovery went smoothly. Dr. Smith was very professional and knowledgeable. All of the staff at the office was nice and helpful. Costs were stated upfront and clearly. If you or your child are looking for an oral surgeon I would highly recommend using Dr. Smith. Thank you so much for making this stressful event go smoothly and confidently.
